Earth Hour

March 31, 2008

Unfortunately, according to Greenrock, there was no significant drop in electricity usage during Earth Hour – March 30th, 2008 8pm- 9pm.  With no financial support for the event Greenrock tried to get the word out about Earth Hour through word of mouth and e-mail.  Interestingly the Premier’s press secretary sent Greenrock a note stating, “Premier Dr. the Hon. Ewart F. Brown is urging the public to use this weekend’s ‘Earth Hour’ as a starting point to stimulate a more lasting commitment to sustainable development.” However, upon searching the Royal Gazette online, I did not find any articles with the phrase ‘Earth Hour’.  I also don’t recall seeing or hearing anything from the government pertaining to Earth Hour prior to the event which is disappointing.  Hopefully next year we can get the word out much earlier and get larger participation in the event throughout the island.

Vagina Monologues

March 25, 2008

I attended the Vagina Monologues last week and was very impressed with the performance.  The only thing that disappointed me was the fact that the show was moved to a smaller venue (I’m assuming due to lack of ticket sales).  I think this show is important for both genders to view.  It gives women a boost of confidence and openness to talk about women’s issues.  In addition it gives men a chance to connect to women in their lives on a new level be it wives, mothers, daughters etc.

I apologize for the lack of posting.  I’ve been away on business for a while.  I’ll be catching up and posting more regularly now that I’m back.
