It's worth noting that some of the current PLP MPs are the children of former UBP members (including Dr. Brown).

So, am I right in thinking they spent most of the time waffling?

I support the idea of having a bunch of core values that members should support; I personally believe both the UBP and PLP need to introduce something along those lines if for no other reason than clarifying their ideological positions. My problem with the DA's core values so far is that they are so vacuous as to be meaningless at the moment. They are really coming across as a gelatinous blob, contorting itself so as to not offend anyone by not taking a solid position on anything. Which brings to mind that old saying about pleasing no one when one tries to please everyone.

I am really curious about how they intend to take race out of the political equation. It is there because we do have some systemic racial issues which are not being adequately addressed. At the moment they just seem to be fobbing off any discussion of race beyond the bland statement that they want to take race out of politics. It seems to me they are adopting that foolhardy position that if we don't talk about it it'll go away. Kind of like expecting dirty dishes to clean themselves.

Welcome back :-)

Right now, the BDA indeed appears to be a group of disgruntled former UBP supporters and not the cross-sectional group it claims to be. Any 'waiting in the wings' talk is a bunch of baloney at the moment.

Regarding taxation in Bermuda. My ex husband is reporting on his taxes an earned income credit of $ 365.00 and that he paid $ 193.00 in taxes to Bermuda. I realize I am talking about very small amounts of money but what could this be and is it pointing at something bigger? I thought Bermuda was a no tax country. Why would this $ 365.00 generate a 50% tax?

In 2008 he worked in Australia, gone one month, and reports he earned only $ 2300.00. Is there a way he could have sent money to a business or whatever in Bermuda? He checks "NO" on his taxes to the questions about owning foreign companies, bank accts. etc etc. Help!

I'm glad to see this site is getting back to activity - the more the merrier.

Yeah, I had heard that about Young United as well. I agree with you that the youth, of both parties, are willing to assist with the more mundane organisational stuff that is necessary for the successes of a political party, but are not going to be satisfied at that alone. A token presence is not acceptable. I recognise that we may not have the same experience as the elders, but that is as much an advantage for us as it is a disadvantage. Alot of youth are apathetic towards politics largely because of consumerism but also because of the perception that the parties are only interested in a token youth presence.

I'm hopeful that this relevation in the media means there may be a paradigm change in the offing. Either way its a foot in the door for the youth and should be used to the advantage of the youth.
